We are proud to announce that the Classical Civilisation team at Sponne has received a Runner Up prize in the Secondary School of the Year category at the Classics for All Impact Awards 2026.
Classics for All is a charity that aims to raise the aspirations and build the cultural capital of young people from all backgrounds by teaching them about the ancient world, working with over 180,000 pupils in over 1,200 schools.
The Impact Awards are a Teaching Awards Ceremony to recognise the outstanding achievements of schools and teachers across the country who have worked directly with Classics for All.
The judges were impressed by our new Myths and Legends topic in Year 7, and our work in introducing Classical Civilisation GCSE as an option at KS4 for the last three years and planning for the A level in the future.
Parents/carers and pupils were asked for their views as part of the nomination process. For many students, it is their 'favourite subject', the lessons were described as 'informative but also very inclusive and fun' and it was noted that the subject 'encouraged wider reading outside of school'. We are very grateful to Classics for All for providing ongoing support and training to enable us to deliver this subject in a really diverse and engaging way.
