The afternoon support session is aimed at primary teachers that qualified during covid (teachers in year 2 / 3 of their teaching career). The aim of the support session is to provide an opportunity to network with fellow colleagues to enable the sharing of experience and good practice and to focus on;

• Arrival 12 noon lunch provided
• 1 hour session with Sam Moinet from Student breakthrough  focusing on wellbeing and resilience
• Practical ways to use adaptive teaching – high challenge – low ceilings so everyone can be successful
• Opportunity for NQTs to network and share experience / techniques
• Developing own classroom practice across a whole year
• Managing time effectively
• Action planning for developing own individual needs

This programme consists of six sessions focused on leading teaching and learning with a series of post session challenges, completed over a term. A key component of the OTP PLUS is that participants will also be working with colleagues back in their school to utilise their professional learning from the programme to support the development of others.

Full attendance at this programme will enable you to develop and lead a learning focused team / organisation; coach colleagues and teams to improve practice; model innovative practice across the school or trust; and engage in facilitating research driven CPD.

The Outstanding Teaching Assistant training day is an opportunity for experienced teaching assistants who are, or who have the potential to be, outstanding in their role. The aim during the day is to develop the potential for teaching assistants to build upon their existing high level of practice and have a wider impact on improving the quality of teaching and learning across the school. This will allow participants to explore their current practice within a collaborative learning environment with colleagues.

This training is suitable for both Primary and Secondary Teaching Assistants.

Cognitive Behavioural approach programme to promote resilience and coping skills in children and young people

This course is for teachers, teaching assistants and pastoral support staff who work with all Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students and those with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Research into promoting and developing resilience shows that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps children and young people cope better with life challenges. The Northamptonshire Educational Psychology Service programme for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students, underpinned by cognitive behavioural approaches, aims to:

• Teach life skills for coping with challenging situations.
• Normalise states of emotional distress, and develop self-regulation and self-soothing skills.
• Build positive social networks and role models, and teach constructive peer relationship skills, thus reducing bullying.
• Improve attitudes to learning and academic performance.

This training session led by Sally Perkins is suitable for governors specifically involved in the recruitment of staff.

Sally Perkins is a National leader of Governance with twelve years’ experience as a governor and eleven years as a Chair of Governors in a variety of schools across the county. School Improvement is a passion for Sally and she especially loves developing Leadership and Management in schools. Sally specialises in governance, safeguarding, attachment and looked after children.

As part of the Education Act 2002 and the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education,  all schools must have a member of the leadership team as their Designated Safeguarding Lead. This person must take lead responsibility for dealing with child protection issues, referring concerns of significant harm, providing advice and guidance to support all staff to carry out their safeguarding duties, overseeing the school provision of early help and liaising with other agencies as required. This training must be updated every 2 years. This course is delivered by Lesley Pollard who is an experienced teacher, trainer and adviser. She currently works as an Independent Learning Adviser carrying out Safeguarding training and audits for a variety of providers as well as for individual schools.
