It has been an exceptionally busy term for many of the Sponne musicians with combined county and school commitments. The term was rounded off on Tuesday evening with our Spring concert featuring all the Sponne music enhancement groups. Over 150 musicians took part and performed to a full house. Well done! Congratulations also to the members of Sponne Brass Band, Jazz Orchestra, String Orchestra, String Ensemble, Sponnaissance and Sponnaissance Reborn who took part in the Regional Festival of Music for Youth on 22nd and 24th March. The performances were very well received with some excellent feedback. Here are some extracts from the music mentor feedback:
Sponne String Orchestra
“A rhythmically tight and intense opening gave your performance a gripping feel of drama. Excellent communication and articulation. Great to hear the violas at the front with some beautiful springy, bouncy bowing. Bravo bassist”
Sponne Brass Band
“Beautiful lyrical playing from the soloists and some fantastic accompanying from the rest of the band. What a great sound this band has”
Sponne Jazz Orchestra
“Many congratulations to your whole rhythm section who were such a cohesive group. Loved all the solos. A great group sound and another example this schools ‘teamwork’ attitude to ensemble playing. Your composer (Penelope Tollervey) obviously knows the group inside out and has written brilliantly for you all”
Sponne String Ensemble
“Beautiful tone and great energy. What interesting repertoire”
“Fantastic voices. You get into the spirit of each piece and gave each one its character. It was heartening to see you directing yourselves. Clearly a massive amount of rehearsal has gone into performing this complex repertoire so well”
“What a beautiful rich sound. Remember 1918 (composed by Susie Clark) takes us on a journey…love the harmonies…..please keep composing. Ubi caritas….gorgeous sound….you are SO musical. I love this group”
Thanks again to all our wonderfully talented and committed musicians. Hope you enjoy a well-deserved break.
