The LRC is extremely well resourced with books, magazines, newspapers and DVDs.In addition, it has 17 networked computers which are supplemented by 30 computers from the adjoining room during break, lunch and after school times. The LRC supports staff and students by providing resources on a wide range of topics. These may be used for class projects in lessons, or course work, or personal study.Current magazines and newspapers are available for up to date news, views and information.

Year 7 and 8 students have regular lessons in the LRC.These teach library skills and provide a chance to borrow and read books. We use the Accelerated Reader scheme for these two year groups. This enables us to monitor students’ progress and encourage them with their reading.Other year groups have information lessons in the LRC including Geography and Careers.Towards exam time the LRC hosts various revision classes.

Several key events take place throughout the year in the LRC.These include Book Week in June where we invite authors to speak to and work with students from Years 7, 8 and 9.Carnegie Shadowing morning also takes place in June.During this we are joined by students from other schools to discuss eight nationally nominated books, and vote for our favourite. In November we hold the Kids Lit Quiz to find two teams to take to the regional heats in Cambridgeshire. We also celebrate World Book Day in March.

Throughout the day the LRC is busy hub of the school. At least one lesson takes place every day.6th formers use it every period for personal study, and we also accommodate small intervention groups.During registration periods 6th form mentors read with Year 7 students. We are visited weekly by staff from the Prospects careers group who work individually with students.Every half term we host a lunchtime Book Group for students from across the year groups who are interested in books and reading. Activities include visits to the Towcester Library and Museum, and hosting visits from local authors.

A recent school survey has shown that staff and students value this resource and find it a comfortable place to meet and work.
